The Importance of Being a Good Person
I know many of my audience are going to be familiar with you, but born 1936, Philadelphia. I've seen you describe yourself, your family, to say, we were poor, but we didn't think that way. Back then, if you called somebody poor, that was an insult. We thought of ourselves as struggling people, people trying to do better. That is, we did not have the welfare mentality. The pathology that you see today was completely absent in the 30s and 40s when I was growing up.
