The Fear of Losing, of Missing Out
A word that I learned this year was kia-su, Singaporean Chinese phrase for a fear of losing. And it's amazing how much that drives. People are really reluctant to accept the idea of sunk cost - there is sunk cost. We always have that sense that if we bought something for 100, expecting it to go to 120, and instead it goes to 60,. It would expose us into being stupid for having bought it in the first place.
