The Mantra of Efficiency
The word efficiency is first used in philosophy or Aristotle's idea of the four causes. In the Middle Ages, theologian Thomas Aquinas applied it to God himself as an efficient prime mover. As efficiency came to be understood as a divine property, it began to encompass other qualities attributed to God including simplicity and foresight.
