The Role of Government in a Society Dedicated to Promoting Freedom
The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community against his will is to prevent harm to others. That's the fundamental principle that I am going to take as a given as describing my own values. The nation-state is a means to an end, not an end in itself. Patriotism may be a widely shared feeling because many of us feel a member of the same community and family.
