Is There a Difference Between Menstruation and Women's Fertility?
Women spent a larger part of their reproductive life pregnant or breast feeding. Many women were mal nourished, which meant that their menstral cycles might be much less regular than we're told ours are supposed to be. Men also knew very little about the workings of the female body and so they tell these stories that don't have much grounding.
