Jiang Kai-Shan and the CCP
By the end of 1947, Joe and Lai was able to announce that the war had finally reached a tipping point. The CCP would soon be on the offensive for the first time since all this began. Jiang Kai-Shan stepped down January 21, 1949, and Li Tongren replaced him as president during one of the darkest moments in KMT history.
