The Importance of Changing Your Environment
In Western culture, we are so individualistic that we love isolating things. We don't realize that everything is a part of a context. Who our kids are in our context are actually fundamentally different human beings than who they are in a different context. The genes that are activated and turned on are dependent on the environment you're in upon the experiences you're having upon the behaviors you're continually doing. If you change your environment, if you change your behavior, your genes change, or at least the genes that are expressed, which is what matters.
