I think we have this idea that the world around us is a fairly static thing. This book kind of gives you very clear indications that that isn't the case. There have been places that aren't any more, and we may be in a place right now that won't always be here. And i think it gives you that idea of the transitory nature of it all. Where we tend to take it for granted, don't we? We're living in it. It must be here for ever. Yes, it's kind of a rebuke to our sense of humorous and invincibility.
