The Liberal Revolution of 1848
Liberals across Europe believed they could forge constitutional governments that defined civil rights and popular sovereignty without falling prey to the reign of terror. But there were also those who rejected this whole contrived moralizing of the good revolution of 1789 and the bad revolution of 1792. These more radical Republicans further believed that there was just as much injustice perpetrated by comfortable liberals as conservative absolutists. So though they were enemies of each other, these radicals actually agreed with Metternich that reform really was just the thin end of the wedge.
