A Review of Wolf Hall by John Walsh

Hilary mantell's first novels came out in the eighties. They were almost totally ignored. Her career trajectory reminds me a bit of shirley jackson, who was not especially esteemed during her life because of a certain idea of who a great american novelist was. She didn't have a wolf hall that tat yo now landed her two pulletsers. To go back to those books is to be reminded that they are so rewarding and astonishing.
