A great metaphor for nothing is darkness. A darkness is empty, or seems empty. It's something that we return to every day. You know, after a day of the sun, or not the sun, you end up with a deep, dark night and then you wait for the day to start again. So it becomes a great metaphor, not only for nothingness, but also for the beginning of things.
