The Life and Times of Phil Lesh

Phil Lesh was a classically trained violinist and trumpeter. His interest was solely in the experimental, and his attitude could be summed up as: 'That's from more than human' Tom Constantin had interrupted him about serialism - music stopped being created in 1750, but it started again in 1950. They were both students of Luciano Barrio, who created compositions from magnetic tape. By early 1962 Garcia and Hunter had formed a bluegrass band,. with Garcia and Guitar and Banjo and Hunter a Mandolin. The pair performed under different names, including the tub thumpers, the hard-valued rifters, and the sleepy valley hogstompers.
