The Importance of Nationalism in the War of 1870
nationalism emerged pretty quickly after the war was declared in July of 1870. By August, many people had gone out into the streets and felt like they were a part of something bigger than themselves. And this from the French perspective was part of the reason for going to war. France wanted to show that they could test their medal against the rising Prussian state.
