The East India Company
The research for this was frustrating and exciting in equal measure. A lot of the book is about trying to use the surviving records, often of corporations, to understand the everyday lives of merchants. And that's something that i think's really important. If we want to understand it in its global dimensions, especially including the trades to europe, it requires us to use some of these perhaps less exciting, but equally important materials alongside those of companies like the east india company.
