The Importance of Identity in the Middle Ages

In the middle ages, there was a sense of nationhood that we can recognize to day. The crusades in Spain and Portugal showed how national identity could be tied up with your right to remain or occupy certain parcels of territory. You do start to see people having a sense that this is their land and not for others. I mean, i think there's a lot of that. And yeu yourself gave a good example of one modern concern about migration to day: the idea f the people coming over somewhered and taking jobs. That brings up the question of identity and who who is is, you know, should be in any given place at any given time.
