i was effectively the british representative in berlin. So i had two bosses ready. One was general sir peter inge and the other was christopher mallarby. They were both extremely sensible and grounded people. And secondly, because they actually let us get on with it. I didn't allow any of them to go out until i'd read them first. It's ably important to remember that the ultimate legislative and executive authority in the western sectors of berlin was vested in the persona of the three western at allied commandants,. american, french and british. No law could be passed. The laws they passed had to be signed off by those three command
