The mining industry has been replaced as the economic driver in Cornwall. By the 1860s Thomas Cook was regularly bringing organised tours to Cornwall. The first sort of tented holiday camps were up and running by the late Victorian period. Falmouth and Penzance were already known as resorts, often for longer-term stays.
