The Suffragettes Learned Jiu Jitsu

Edward William Barton Reich wrote Japanese martial arts over from Japan. He coined his own martial art called Bartitsu, which is mentioned in the Shailahkum stories. The bodyguard used this as one of part of their weapons, along with the use of the Indian club. Mrs Garrods was giving suffragettes self-defense lessons on her London dojos. She became a powerhouse figure in the women's suffrage movement.
