An important part of Wales in this period is its loyalty to the throne. So they become very enthusiastic royalists and monarchists for one of a better word. Even when you get an entirely different house, the stewards coming to the throne in 1603, the Welsh are master manipulators of family trees and pedigrees. And so even James I then is hailed as somebody who is a line of British descent that the Welsh can particularly get on board with. One of James's pet projects was to unite England and Scotland principally Wales comes as a bit of an added bonus. But the Welsh love this idea, they love the idea of Britain come again - there's a new efflorescence
