What Do You Say, Madame Hands?
On March 6, 1862, the Monitor headed out to sea under the command of Lieutenant John Warden. He was said to be a slight man who had soft ladylike hands but was good in a fight. Like many of the Navy men, he distrusted Erickson and his mentions. The ship was so low in the water that going to the bathroom had to be rethought.
