The use of thorium rather than uranium to power nuclear power reactors. Thorium is four times more plentiful in the Earth's crust than natural uranium. Less than 1% of that natural uranium is U-235 which is the kind of uranium that's useful for making nuclear reactor fuel. But regulators in the West are nowhere close to being ready to even consider permitting a thorium fueled reactor.
