Democracy Is a Mixed Tradition
I really don't like American exceptionalism. It's just lazy. If you're so exceptional, then show it. Show how great you are. Get rid of the gerrymandering. Make election day a national holiday. Like voting the right. I think that's what you've been trying to say, isn't it, that just because you've got this fairly long tradition of democratic politics doesn't mean that it's assured? You can only repair that in the 1960s and it's not a completely repair.
