Within France, you have what would have been seen as the peasantry and aristocracy. And in the middle sat all of the people who did things - book binders,. lawyers and engineers. So what we would probably today call middle class, but that wouldn't have been a phrase that meant anything. There are more written records from the Huguenot's than there might have hitherto been.
