Riots broke out across France after a teenager was shot and killed by police. Nael Melzuk's death reignited decades of simmering tensions in France. The country hasn't seen violence on this scale since 2005 when two teenagers died while allegedly being chased by police, three weeks of rioting then followed. More than 3,000 people had been arrested; the home of a district mayor was ramraded by a burning car. His wife broke her leg trying to escape.
