The Role of Randomness in XCOM

Parley: I agree with Zach that almost seeing the dice doesn't make bad outcomes feel worse. And we know this through various player psychology kind of tricks. Right, what it does is it takes you out of feeling like the results was crap and it just puts you in a place where you're like, oh, the result was what it is. This is I got unlucky. That's very different than the way that people tend to talk about XCOM. When people get bad roles in XCOM, they don't think that they got unlucky. They think that the game is bullshit. Lots of people in Tharsis complained about being unlucky and that the game didn't feel winnable.
