The Best Piece of Advice Is Networking and Personal Projects

The best advice is get yourself out into the world and pick up a personal project. If someone doesn't want you, they are nice enough or however they say it to be like, I'm not interested, take the fucking hint. Adding to networking, having more of a proper mentor of some sort that either has a photography business or just at least knows how to set up a photo shoot was key for him.
