The Times has to enforce certain rules of conduct so that it can't be accused of moral solipsism or some sort of shady stuff. If the journalists don't create or recreate this marketplace, no one is going to do it for them. The times will always be the time. I would hazard to guess that it is three to five years ahead of the Washington Post. But I don't think I've read a non-political piece in the Washington Post ever before. So it doesn't have the permission to be what the times is. And now the times is whirl and the athletic autumn and cereal and football season are here.
