The Ship List of the Norman Invasion
The ship list is part of a Bodleian Library manuscript at the back of another. It has been argued by modern scholars that it contains information from the immediate years following the Norman invasion, probably before 1072. The document gives numbers of ships for each of the different magnates. So Robert Mortain is recorded given 120 ships all the way down to Remedius of Ficom who gives one ship. And then we've got Duchess Matilda, wife of William the Conqueror,. She's recorded as giving the flagship of the fleet, which this document gives the name the Moira.
