Nearly every European army contained cross-dressed soldiers, the American military in both the Civil War and the American Revolution. So this is women who dressed up as men in order to fight. And it's a fascinating phenomenon. We'll never actually know for sure how many of these women were because we do know that many of them were never uncovered while they were fighting. But there could have been more of these women that we don't know about. It's very likely that there was.
