The Five Sisters and the Family History of the Mid-19th Century
The five sisters living together and being rather successful in creating a business, that's unusual. And with the five sisters and with marie, it seems to be quite a matriarchal family. I wanted to show that one could look at the female line all the way through the nineteenth century. Is also helped by the fact that married women in this social class tended not to change their name. But i do think there was a very deliberate choice on the part of at least these five sisters to favour the female line.
