The Wall and the Mass Exodus
The wall was put up overnight literally in August 1961. There are these horrendous stories, people's families being torn apart or somebody being split from the workplace in West Berlin that they worked at whilst they lived in the east. It caught out a lot of people. But then on the flip side I spoke to other people who said well this is my home I'm going to stay here despite the fact that you know she could have literally still walked across on that morning but chose not to. So it's once again a story that's a lot more complex than you think to start with.
