The Evolution of Neanderthal Gene Expression
There's like 100 different candidate genes. The reason they pull this one to the surface, or really focus on this one is it's sort of that gene is expressing the protein at the right place in the right time. This is these specific cells in the developing neocortex. And so as they undergo these kind of stem cell divisions, this leads to a pool of cells that will then mature to become neurons.
