The Republic of Color

The Republic of Color also concerns how color perception figured into anthropological theories of civilization. For much of the 19th century, American anthropology had an idea of culture as being fundamentally developing in a sort of unilineal direction. And so it is often observed that some language groups don't really distinguish between green and blue. The notionally civilized are actually more prone to colorblindness than the notionally savage.
