Anaholigan went to a reception centre in the country's rural north. The process is taking much longer than usual due to staff shortages and a lack of available accommodation. A wider concern for many asylum seekers is not the long waiting times but the alarming conditions they are expected to live in while they wait. This month government inspectors warned that babies and the elderly risk developing health problems due to the unsanitary surroundings. And back in August a three months old child died here in the sports hall which is used as an overspill centre for new arrivals.
