The Battle of Santiago
The 1962 World Cup in Chile was famous for the 'Battle of Santiago' A group match between Italy and Chile turned violent after an Italian player refused to leave the pitch. The referee lost control, sending off two players who had been sent off before police were forced to escort them back on to the pitch. That incident led to a lot of unrest among Italians living in Chile during that tournament.
