Matei's Approach to International Relations

In 1957 Matei proposed this new model to the Shah of Iran which you could call the Matei model if you will. He said allow us to look for oil in Iran and we will create an oil company based in Iran that is 50% owned by the Iranian national oil company. So it sets a model of something that could actually be done. When OPEC negotiated the first royalty expensing agreement or try to negotiate that agreement with the international oil companies, the research center of the NI was a consultant for OPEC.
