Can You Win a Primary or a General Election?

If you beat Trump, but you lose his 35% of the Republicans, you can't win. I think part of this depends on how many people get in. If there is another candidate who has won the nomination, does Trump help them? Or does he go on a jihad against them? And that will be meaningful because there are still millions of voters out there who listen to Donald Trump and follow him.
