Are Bacteria Present in Cancers?
Bacteria have been spotted in a large range of cancers, but it wasn't clear whether they were just there because cancer cells are abnormal. Now, Scott Verbridge at Virginia Tech has been able to show that when these bacteria are present, tumor cells behave differently. They can also alter the behavior of adjacent cancer cells that don't even have any of these bacteria in them.
