The Importance of Data-Driven Risk Assessment in the Criminal Justice System

Criminogenic risk assessment is based on research empirical research that identifies strong individual level predictors of re-arrest or re-incarceration what they refer to as recidivism, typically among people who are being released from prison. The framework was developed as sort of like a re-entry planning and community corrections supervision tool. It's something that in theory, you know, looks at these very specific aspects of behavior. And then it morphed into this what they call now an evidence based practice of using these predictors to sort of explain the origins of crime or criminal behavior as they call it.
