The Subriciday Massacre

The subriciday massacre is one of the most difficult events from ethelred's reign to interpret. We only have very fragmentary evidence, particularly in terms of the written record. It does have a whiff of kind of later ideas about efhnit cleansing, and sense that he is targeting a minorityvery prominently. But it doesn't seem to be a case of lynching anybody you suspect might be a dane. The question is, though, who then are all the danish men in england in ethelred’s reign?
