The Templars had so many privileges not having to pay taxes, performing feudal Jews and being exempt from visitation in most cases by the bishop. King Edward I of England was trying to investigate what has happened to all the royal rights that his ancestors had when he discovered they had been given away to religious orders. The bishops complained that the military orders found houses and obscure places because they get given this land it's on the borders or it's slightly out of use. They found their houses there and they have chapels and they use their chapels as a local parish church which is fantastic up to a point.
