The Importance of Punishment in Britain
Douglas is sent to Van Diemansland, what we would now call Tasmania. It's meant to be a place you don't want to go because you're put to hard labor. The idea is that punishment shouldn't necessarily be something solely inflicted on the body. They should try to improve criminals so that they're no longer committing crime.
