The False Antiquarian
The way that the right wing uses traditional values in order to push a kind of corporate consumerism on everyone is an example of this false antiquarian. When criticism becomes the only respectable mode of historicism, then it becomes one size fits all. And at a certain point that's just going to blow over and people are going to get into some other shit. This is just how modernity works. So the wheel could turn and we could end up in 50 years with Antiquarianism as the ground tone of academia or exemplary histories. Who the hell knows? I don't have a crystal ball.
