Diversity Training Can Make Things Worse
Sally Kohn: I am a firm believer in systemic racism. But talking about it in the ways that diversity training does, where we just all sit around and examine our consciences and talk about it, makes things worse. She says instead of trying to deescalate problems with these empathetic connections, try to make them more common ground for everyone. "If you have been discriminated against, you want someone to hear you're mad," she says.
