The Recalcitrant Relationship Between Texas and the South
Tremaine Lee: I loved your book and it's not an ambivalent relationship with Texas. It is just so fascinating about how you identify as a Texan, but then you look back at what happened then, what's happening now. He says there was recalcitrantism by slaveholders in the South who didn't want to give up human beings as their property. Reed: The end of slavery ended, but that didn't end the notion of a racial hierarchy.
