Can you think of an instance in which a prominent academic historian has engaged in a debate over fundamental issues with an adversary in public? I mean, the most recent thing I can think of is maybe when you had Gordon Wood in the 1619 Project recently. But outside of that, no. That used to happen. You used to have real debate, but it doesn't anymore.
