Introduction

In the 19 thirties, the b v c was a very different beast from the somewhat ramshackle institution that had first emerged a decade earlier. It increasingly became a corner stone of the british establishment, and also came under keen scrutiny from those in government. The start of this decade saw the b b c embark on a move to new headquarters. What did this move tell us about ambition of the bb c? And i suppose, the role that it now played as it enter the 19Thirties on the national stage.
