The Importance of the Deportation of Slovak Prisoners
In January of 1942, Himmler took probably the most important decision which had very serious, very important consequences for the future of Auschwitz. We said that because the Soviet prisoners of war would probably not be available in the near future in sufficient numbers. So that was the moment when first Jews, large numbers, should be sent to Auschwitz. The decision was taken, but as a such, only those who were fit for work. After four Slavic transports, something completely different happened and new groups of Slovak prisoners began to come to Auschwitz. In this case, they were so-called family transports, not only young and healthy people, but also mothers of children,.
