Sexual Assault Nurses

Carrie and her daughter go to the emergency department of the dartmouth general hospital. A sexual assault nurse examiner collects evidence and administers carry's rape kit. An officer just happens to be on patrol and hospital waiting room that morning. Cary tells me that the sexual assault nurse asked her if she was willing to speak with police. This is a specialized role expert nurses who are trained in sexual assault. They respond using what is called a tramain formed approach. It means honoring, a balancing act of gathering evidence which could ultimately be used in a criminal prosecution - without judging or blaming the victim.
