Jiang Kai-Shak and the Common Turn
Zhou and Li was appointed Secretary of the Front Committee in charge of operations. He was given a task, to go to Nanchang in Jiangxi province and organize an uprising. Zhou believed in order for the movement to be taken seriously they had to take and hold a major city. The operation was a success but as soon as Jiangxi Shek got wind of what was going on,. troops were called in and made fast work of the gains made by hu long's army. By August 4th, they were chewed out of the city and forced to set up a base elsewhere.
